Note: Several years ago I met Ulysses E. Johnson, the minister at the Church of Christ South Side in Mobile, Alabama. He was, and is a faithful and able proclaimer of God’s Truth. I recommend the following article by brother Johnson.
I have set out a many a day for a place I had never seen before, but having good information I did arrive safe and sound. But every so often in my life, I did go on that which I thought I knew, and the place was not where I figured it would be. What a feeling! The moment reality sets in, we must face the fact that we are wrong! If I had built up plans based on that which I figured (figured wrong), those plans would have flaws. So then, I have learned that correct and clear instruction is essential to arriving safely and assured. We are taught that the explorer Columbus thought he had arrived on the shores of India when he landed for the first time in this “new land,” and called the people he encountered by the name “Indians.” Have you ever called some people (quietly in your own mind) fools before you realized they were not fools at all, but that your information or perception was wrong? Well, that is the danger of proceeding on “what we figured,” or bad information. Not only can we wrongly condemn someone or something, we can also give credit where none is due going on wrong convictions. Have you ever in class boldly turned in an assignment in all confidence that it was acceptable or even excellent material only to find out it was “graded lower” or even unacceptable? Well, always be prepared to accept correction and a possibility that you may be wrong on a certain matter especially when it is pertaining to religion. God will only accept that which obeys or complies with His will and the truth. When in the course of a physical health exam, the physician discovers a serious health problem that is fatal if not corrected, we pay attention to his instructions fully. We do not go to a night club, approach the bar and follow the consensus of opinions there. Then why leave God’s Word and listen to popular opinion when it comes to serving God and salvation? Insist on the Bible truth! Godly traits!! In 1-8!! Amen!
All of God’s saved are exhibiting godly traits henceforth. God’s only way to be saved is: hear the Gospel, the good news that Jesus Christ died for our sins, was buried and rose again the third day (I Cor. 15:1-4). Believe it, (Mark 16:15-16), and repent (Acts 2:38), confess Jesus Christ is God’s Son (Rom. 10:9-10), then be baptized for remission of sins (Acts 2:38), and live faithfully unto death (Rev. 2:10). Call on us anytime to assist you in being saved. Amen.
